“As a native of Cape Girardeau County, I am honored to stand on the shoulders of Cape County giants – my great grandfather Sylvester Thompson, grandfather Billy Joe Thompson, and father John M. Thompson – who have long served and cherished our community,” Thompson stated. “Their legacy of service inspires my commitment to the betterment of our county.”

Thompson was born and raised in Jackson. He graduated from Jackson High School in 2004, and then went to Nashville Auto Diesel College, where he studied to become a heavy truck mechanic. After graduating, he worked as a mechanic. “I did that for a long time,” he said.

In 2013, he switched careers and moved into insurance. He now has an American Family Insurance agency in Cape Girardeau.

He and his wife, Jessie, have a Jackson address, but they live outside of city limits in the county. They have two children, C.J., 2, and Gemma, 6.

Thompson said he is mechanically minded, so he is able to look at projects —such as the remodeling of the old courthouse — and grasp things quickly. His insurance experience has helped him develop the ability to talk with people and work to solve their problems.

In a press release, Thompson said his platform centers on a commitment to learn, serve, and promote transparency within the county administration. He has a fervent dedication to understanding the intricacies of county affairs and pledges to prioritize the needs and voices of all constituents.

“I believe in the power of succession and planning for the future. Learning from the exemplary leadership of Commissioners Clint Tracy and Charlie Herbst, I aspire to continue their legacy of putting Cape Girardeau County first,” Thompson affirmed.

A key aspect of Thompson’s campaign strategy involves engaging with residents across the county, from Tilsit, Gordonville, Fruitland, Delta, Bufordville, Millersville, Allenville, Whitewater, Oak Ridge, Pocahontas, Old Appleton, Daisy, Jackson and Cape Girardeau to ensure that every voice is heard and represented in the county’s decision-making processes.
