On October 29, 1982, the late Bob T. Williams signed his name to the idea of a better future for children. Through the collective efforts of local Exchange Clubs, Bob, Lewis Pittman, and their colleagues applied to establish a community resource dedicated to helping parents and protecting children.

Now known as Kindred Place (initially called “Exchange S.C.A.N. (Suspected Child Abuse & Neglect), we’ve been working with children, parents, and families every day for 40 years.

💚 We have a full team of therapists (including two bilingual counselors) who offer individual counseling, classes, and coaching both in-person and via telehealth. You can meet our clinical team here.

💚 We’re the only Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) practice in Memphis. FIT gives every client, of every age, voice, power, and agency in their own treatment.

💚 Our doors are open to everyone. We see adults, children, and whole families, and we accept private insurance.

Client Story: Helping a child with a fresh start.

For confidentiality reasons, we’ve kept most of the details here anonymous.

A recent Kindred Place client was a young child who was kicked out of pre-kindergarten. (You read that right.)

The child couldn’t sit still, couldn’t keep emotions in check, and was aggressive with other children. The child’s mom was at risk of losing her job because of tardiness and absenteeism related to caring for the child.

They were referred to Kindred Place for a structured form of work called Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), a specialized treatment for young children and their parents, together. Our therapists say PCIT is like watching magic happen.

Sure enough, after only a few weeks of work, the mother couldn’t believe the change. After they completed the whole 16 weeks of work, the child was enrolled in school and is now doing great.

The cost of their treatment was $2,400.

The mom’s insurance was a high-deductible plan, so she would have had to pay the entire cost out of pocket. But she didn’t, because Kindred Place was able to offer financial assistance to get the family the support they needed. And of course, people like you are the reason why such financial support is available. We’re so grateful.
