Kurt has been facing some significant health challenges recently. Just before Christmas (December 2024) , Kurt underwent a procedure to address a severe blockage in his ureter. Unfortunately, the blockage was too extensive to place a stent, and he had to be admitted to the hospital so they could relieve the pressure on his severely enlarged kidney by placing a kidney tube.

After that procedure, Kurt ran into additional complications and remained in the hospital for five days, receiving treatment. Thankfully, he is now stable and continuing his care with specialists at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

He has an important exploratory surgery scheduled for January 21, 2025, during which the surgeons will determine if his kidney can be saved. A more extensive follow-up surgery will be scheduled at a later date based on what the surgeons find. If possible, they’ll perform a reconstructive surgery to either relocate the kidney or repair it using a portion of the bladder.

Kurt recently relocated to Georgia for a job, but his wife and children are still living in Louisiana for now. This means he doesn’t have a strong local support system, which will require him to rely on home health services—an added and costly necessity. Unfortunately, with all of this taking place right at the end of the year (2024), the health insurance deductible started over on 01/01/2025, adding to the financial strain. On top of that, the back-and-forth travel to Florida for his care will add significant expenses and stress.
