Hi future donor! My name is Eli and I play ultimate frisbee on the Montclair Geese Varsity Team, a student run team based in Montclair, NJ. As someone who’s been playing ultimate for 5 years, going to the High School National Invite in Salt Lake City, UT is the most special way to end my high school ultimate career before I head off to Wesleyan University in the fall and play ultimate there. The Geese are currently ranked #10 in the country and have been practicing since early march following an active off-season in the winter. My favorite part about playing ultimate is the camaraderie that’s built not just within the team but with other teams; there’s simply no other sport like it. Every team we play against, they’re our friends and we congratulate them on amazing plays and lift them up when things aren’t going well for them. A little bit more about the team: our varsity squad is made up of about 20 players and we have a similarly sized JV team that we have joint practices with. Our leadership, made up of student captains, coaches, and social media managers run practices and organize all of the logistics of games, local tournaments, outreach, and even out of state tournaments. Just 3 years ago, this team couldn’t even run a scrimmage at the end of practice, it was that small! Because we’re not affiliated and managed by Montclair High School, our only source of funding comes from our players and public support. For this national championship in Utah your donation will go towards plane tickets, lodging, food, transportation, and tournament costs.
