I love ultimate. I love the sport, I love the spirit, and I love the people. I was introduced to ultimate my eighth grade year by a friend, and played it a few times casually without any real knowledge. Freshman year, I decided to play ultimate just for fun. When I joined, though, I was blown away by the competitiveness and the spirit that came with the sport. The team was constantly supportive, friendly but challenged me to improve personally. I felt that the team was perfect for me.
I continued playing and pushed myself to be the best player I could, and also, in line with team values, never let competitiveness override good sportsmanship. As I matured, I began to work with newer players and I realized I'd become a teacher for them the same way the older players had been for me. Montclair's player-run, player-coached structure both pushed me to be a good player, coach and especially a good person.
This team, in the years since I've joined, has more than doubled in size and developed as one of the best programs in the country. We've been given the opportunity to go to the High School National Invite, an unbelievable feat given the youth of Montclair Ultimate. We'll be able to meet and compete with other competitive teams from around the country, something that less than a year ago seemed impossible for us. This is a tremendous opportunity for us, and and I'm just so excited to go. Any and all support is so appreciated!
