As we welcome a new year, all of us at K-9 Lifesavers want to begin with one simple but powerful message: thank you. Your support, compassion, and belief in our mission are the reason we are able to show up for dogs when they need us most. We are incredibly grateful to have you as part of our K-9 family.

While we always hope to close out the year on a positive note, the end of 2025 brought with it a couple of heartbreaking and unexpected situations that have left us entering the new year in a place we never anticipated.

The first involved a pregnant mama dog we had committed to take into our care. She gave birth on the very day she was scheduled to come to us—several weeks early. Premature births are incredibly risky, and sadly, mama was not producing milk. Her fragile newborns required 24-hour monitoring and bottle feeding, day and night, to give them a fighting chance. The intensive care, supplies, and veterinary support for this little family have added up quickly. (This family will still be coming to us in the coming months)

Then, as we were already stretched thin, we were hit with another devastating blow: an entire litter fell ill with parvovirus. As most of you know, parvo can be fatal if not treated immediately. Despite aggressive care, we tragically lost one puppy, and our hearts are completely broken. The remaining five puppies spent multiple nights hospitalized receiving lifesaving treatment. Thankfully, they are now on the mend—but their survival came at a tremendous cost.

Instead of starting the new year with the clean slate we had hoped for, we are beginning it with veterinary bills totaling nearly $30,000. Our credit card is beyond maxed out, and these balances must be paid down so we can continue helping the dogs who still need us.

This is not where we wanted to be as we enter the new year, but here we are—making a desperate and heartfelt plea to our community. We know the holidays have just passed, and we understand that many may not have much to spare. Please believe us when we say that every single penny truly counts. Any amount you are able to give will go directly toward paying down these vet bills and keeping our rescue afloat.

No matter how you support us—through donating, fostering, adopting, sharing our posts, or simply caring—please know how deeply grateful we are. We could not do this work without you, and we are holding onto hope as we move forward together.
