For nearly two decades the Shawangunk Journal has been your trusted local source for news, but today we find ourselves at a crossroads. Local publishing - here and everywhere in America - has changed so profoundly that business as usual is no longer sustainable. All our traditional sources of revenue: advertising, classifieds, public notices, inserts - you name it - are a fraction of what they were just ten years ago, and COVID brutally accelerated this trend.

Our little company has to transform itself in order to survive, and we need your help to do that.

We have already started on the path to a stronger future. The digital SJ continues to grow and attract new audiences, and is now a significant source of revenue for us. We have expanded coverage to nearby communities, and collaborate with other local publishers to spread costs and share resources.

But it's not enough.

Our staff is the smallest it's ever been, and we're all working overtime to produce the comprehensive coverage you rely on. Costs keep rising, revenue keeps dropping, and news to be reported happens every single day - how does this ever add up?

The answer, of course, is you, our readers. We need you to be the new piece of the local news revenue puzzle.
