Established in 2009 by Ivelisse "Bombera de Corazón" Díaz, La Escuelita has become one of the most important Bomba schools, globally. Today, La Escuelita's mission is to connect people back to their cultural roots in order to create a movement of individuals who are committed to cultural preservation, resistance, and empowerment through the exploration of Afro-Puerto Rican arts and culture with an emphasis on Bomba and Plena. Since its creation, La Escuelita has been a fully community grassroots endeavor, a true labor of love and compromiso.

In 2023, La Escuelita moved into its own space located in Humboldt Park, Chicago, an exciting new step in the growth and journey of the organization. In 2024, as we enter our 15th year, we are calling on your donations to help support us in this big step, and all of our upcoming projects and endeavors!
