Support Lao Children

Support Lao Children, founded in 2008 by Australian Andrew Brown, is a massive project in Laos involving orphanages in Luang Prabang, Suan Luang, and Numbuk, plus programs in an additional 19 villages impacting another 3,200 children, and scholarship programs that have helped nearly 1,500 young Lao scholars enroll in college.

When Andrew began working with the orphanage in Luang Prabang in 2007, children received two meals of vegetable soup per day. Thanks to donations to Support Lao Children, the children in that orphanage now get meals that include eggs, milk, meat, and fresh fruit. The three orphanages that Support Lao Children works with now have not just healthy food programs and hygiene programs that distribute soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes, but essential clean water and some new dormitories.

In 2011, the organization started a Scholarship Program to pay for college. To date, the program has supported more than 750 orphanage school graduates with full scholarships. They have also enrolled more than 450 Suan Luang Graduates and 220 Numbuk graduates into a special “working scholarships” where they are supported for the first few months of their university education.

A full scholarship costs just $670 USD (US Dollars) per year per student, and pay for their food, education, accommodation, and medical needs. Degree programs are between 2 and 4 years.
