Little Black Dress Initiative (#LBDI) is a week-long awareness and fundraising campaign that harnesses the power of social media and does something “a little different” in order to educate people about local issues that Leagues work on in their communities.

Since 2018 the Tuscaloosa Public Library has provided "Tinker Tubs" to Tuscaloosa community schools and organizations, creating access to hands-on STEM-based activities that introduce children to the world of coding and robotics. This year the Junior League of Tuscaloosa is kicking off our new community partnership with the library by raising funds and awareness for a new Tinker Tub. This new tub will consist of a classroom set of drones (20) that will introduce students to the basics of block coding by programming custom flight paths and further their STEM skills with options to build and customize its remote.

LBDI Advocates wear the same black dress (or outfit) for five consecutive days to raise awareness about digital literacy and the resources to empower women and children to navigate the digital landscape effectively. By wearing a button that reads “Ask Me About My Dress,” Advocates invite dialogue among colleagues, friends, and strangers to raise awareness about the work the Tuscaloosa Public Library does in our community.

When does it happen?

Our League will participate in the LBDI from March 6 - 10.
