Invest in Hope: Transforming Childhood Cancer Research

Since 1970, the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO) has led the fight for childhood cancer research funding and education. As the leading nonprofit driving federal support, ACCO is also the only national organization securing state-level research funding through legislation and appropriations.

In 2018, a $250,000 donation enabled ACCO to unlock $25 million in state funding—a 100x return on investment. Since then, the ACCO has been responsible for securing state funding for pediatric cancer research exceeding $120 million.

Yet, the need is urgent. In over 30 years, only 7 childhood cancer drugs have been FDA-approved, compared to more than 225 for adult cancers. For many children, treatments haven’t changed in decades. Survival rates for certain cancers remain stagnant, and therapies are harsh, damaging growing bodies, and causing lifelong harm, from cognitive impairment to secondary cancers and infertility.

With federal research funding under threat, ACCO’s What About Kid® State Research Initiative needs corporate partners more than ever.
