Get ready for local leadership to shine! This is a big step for TandanAgua as our Ecuadorian team takes on the lead responsibility in the field for our safe water program. We are so proud of how far they have come from learning about public health topics and waterborne disease prevention, to teaching entire communities how to improve their health through safe water.

Our newest community

The community of San José de Chacumbi is a Kichwa indigenous population of 26 households, about 150 people. They are actively involved in the wellbeing of their community, and have been very concerned about recent water testing showing fecal contamination of their drinking water source. They are aware that this is a danger especially to the health and development of their young children, who are more likely to have a life-threatening illness from drinking bacteria and parasites in the water. The community leadership approached us because they heard about our work from neighboring communities and were eager to take action.

We will be partnering with Ikiam University and their UNESCO Chair program, and the Ministry of Health to do an assessment of their water sources, give public health training workshops, and provide locally made household ceramic water filters.

With your help, this community will be drinking purified water and working toward healthier lives. And they will be able to stop worrying about getting sick from something as simple as drinking water. We would love for you to join us in this work!
