The Houston Chapter of the Twelve Days of Christmas, Inc. is excited to present the “Legacy Tea: Brewing Infinite Possibilities” on Sunday, November 13, 2022, in the beautiful Crystal Ballroom at The Rice. This highly anticipated tea combines a message of inspiration, Legacy Awards, delectable cuisine, a featured children’s author and opportunities for sponsorship. Our honorary chairs for this event are mother and daughter Myrtle Jones and Alexandria Preston.

Since 1999, the Twelve Days organization has assisted less fortunate families with a specific commitment to honor, celebrate and bring awareness to issues facing children. This legacy of human service began with providing hope in the spirit of Christmas for families who lacked resources and faced hardships. In the 23 years of existence, Twelve Days takes pride in expanding to include a coterie of over 200 Black philanthropic women who with passion make a difference in the communities of nine chapters: Houston, TX, DC Metro, Oakland, CA, New York, NY, Atlanta, GA, Detroit, MI, Philadelphia, PA, Chicago, IL, and Loudoun County, VA. As Twelve Days continually strives to bring hope and humanity to the doorsteps of those in need, today’s programs go way beyond physical gifts to include investing in the potential of “at-risk children” becoming “children of promise”.

Our commitment to vulnerable children emphasizes literacy as the most important factor for building a solid foundation for life- long learning. The R.E.A.D. Program (Read to Empower Achieve and Discover) is considered “the ultimate gift”. This program’s primary focus is to tackle the basic challenges of reading via creative storytelling that encourages a desire to read, develops a love of reading, elevates aspirations and provides book ownership. The Easter program delivers “Eggs-ucational Baskets” that stimulate the mind with books, puzzles, word games, and activities. Additionally, the “Christmas in July” program assures that children are prepared for school with needed clothes, shoes, backpacks, and grade appropriate school supplies.

The population of children we serve lack exposure, opportunities, and resources. A collaboration with Twelve Days combines service and generosity per equates to sowing seeds of transformative power in their lives. Your support provides vital funds necessary to assist vulnerable children and to raise the literacy expectations needed for them to become “children of promise.” These children are our future; together, we can help them succeed.
