Medical emergencies can't wait

Freedom Spectrum of East Africa (FSEA) is a grassroots human rights organization supporting LGBTQI+ refugees and asylum seekers across East Africa.

Many community members face serious barriers to healthcare, including poverty, discrimination, and reduced access to services as humanitarian support in some areas has decreased or shut down.

Hospitals often require payment before treatment begins, and delays in care can quickly become life-threatening. In urgent cases, even partial payment may be needed to start treatment.

Right now, two community members urgently need medical care, but treatment has not yet been provided due to lack of funds.

This campaign raises an $8,750 emergency medical fund to cover current crises and ensure FSEA can respond quickly to future emergencies.

Current urgent medical needs

Urgent surgery for a community member — $2,000

A community member is experiencing severe, ongoing pain and urgently needs surgery estimated at $1,500, plus approximately $500 for follow-up care and recovery support.

She is among the first members of the community registered for resettlement to a safer country, but recovery is needed before she can safely move forward.

Treatment for typhoid and serious infection — $750

Another community member is currently seeking treatment for typhoid and a urinary infection, requiring approximately $450 for immediate treatment and $300 for follow-up care and recovery support.

Community first aid and emergency supplies — $500

FSEA also aims to purchase basic first aid and emergency medical supplies to help refugee organizers respond more quickly to illness and injury within the community.

Future Emergency Medical Response Fund — $5,500

This campaign also establishes a sustainable emergency medical fund to respond quickly to future urgent health needs. Medical emergencies in the community often arise without warning, and delays in funding can delay treatment.

This reserve will support:

Emergency medical treatment and procedures
Medication and clinical care
Transportation to care
Follow-up and recovery support
Future urgent medical emergencies
