Sailing Center Chesapeake relies on racks to store their sails. Right now, those racks are flimsy structures that use sections of pvc pipe as horizontal supports. Under the weight of the sails, these racks suffer significant bending. This makes the racks harder to use and move, negatively impacting SCC sailing programs.

Fortunately, there is an alternative!

This new design uses a combination of shorter horizontal supports, vertical studs, and reenforcing trusses to create a stiffer, stronger structure. Liam David’s Eagle Project will be to construct these new racks, move them into position, and move the sails from the old racks to the new. This will be providing the sailing center with an ideal sail storage setup for decades to come.

We need your help…

While the cutting and construction of the racks will be performed by volunteers, the material cost for each rack will be around $215, with a maximum of three racks possibly being built. SCC has already set aside about $200 for the project, and we are contacting lumber suppliers for donations, but any additional monetary donations to the project would be a significant boost. The more money we get, the more racks we can build, so every little bit helps.
