Help Lil Valentine's Get Urgent Medical Care 💕

Lil Val came into our care this week and started to develop an upper respiratory infection from being exposed to other dogs at an open intake shelter. As a brachycephalic (flat-faced) dog, she already has a compromised airway, making respiratory illness more serious and harder to overcome. After becoming sick, she was seen at Prestige Animal Wellness, where chest X-rays confirmed pneumonia.

Under the guidance of Dr. Engle at Prestige Animal Wellness, we performed diagnostics to understand the full picture, including X-rays, bloodwork, and a PCR respiratory panel (results pending) to guide treatment.

She also tested heartworm positive and will begin treatment as soon as she's recovered from pneumonia.

What we’ve spent so far:
Valentines care today totaled $900.49, including:
• Chest X-rays to diagnose pneumonia
• Bloodwork and lab testing
• PCR respiratory panel
• Medications to treat infection and support recovery

What’s next:
Lil Val must recover from pneumonia before beginning heartworm treatment (estimate future costs $700). Her care will include:
• Continued medications and monitoring
• Follow-up veterinary visits and diagnostics
• Full heartworm treatment protocol
• Basic vet care needs; Spay surgery once she is stable is not included in our fundraising goal. She will likely need nares surgery as well.
