Story

A BENEFIT FOR OUR TEACHERS

Lawrence Community Nursery School employs four incredible staff members, two full time and two part time. As a non-profit, we rely on increased funding to allow us to make a change to salaries and wages. Our current wages for our teachers fall below the median level in Kansas and we want to change that! Our Executive Director, Stephanie Duncan, who has committed to our school for twenty years has a wage that falls around the 20% mark compared to others in Kansas with her same levels of responsibility. Our assistant teacher hourly rate currently falls below 50% of those in Kansas with the same job.

To know our teachers, is to love our teachers. The energy and love they bring to the children of our community is impressive! They are committed to utilizing the Positive Behvavior Supports (PBS) framework to help our kids develop in positive ways. We appreciate you all for helping us improve the job satisfaction of our incredible staff.

ABOUT LCNS

LCNS is a play-based preschool where children learn about the world through developmentally appropriate hands-on activities. The main emphasis of our program is social/emotional development—the process of learning to communicate and interact positively and effectively with adults and peers. LCNS utilizes Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) as a framework for teaching the skills children need to navigate peer interactions. Our cooperative atmosphere strengthens connections within the teachers and families, and lends cohesion to all parts of the child’s life. LCNS also facilitates the acquisition of whole concepts, rather than isolated skills. We focus on receptive and expressive language, creativity, dramatic and constructive play, and large and small motor development. Daily activities engage children through language, art, sensory play, math, science, and knowledge of the world around us.
