When she gets let go from her job for meddling in people's love lives, a woman who smells love tries to redeem herself, not realizing her competitor is watching.

Synopsis

Love is in the air, and Layla can smell it. I mean it. She can actually smell love, leading to her setting up people and ultimately being let go from her job. As she pours her sorrows at a bar, she once again smells love, this time from her favorite bartender. As she tries to set her up, the love doctor appears, becoming the competition in Layla's quest.

Genre

This is a lighthearted comedy with hints of romance (of course). There's a huge rom-com element with the bartender while it's a little bit more serious for Layla and the Love Doctor.

The Crew

Myana Zhané

Myana Zhané is a Writer, Director, and Archival Researcher from Flint, Michigan. Myana graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor's degree in Filmmaking in May 2021. During her time in Chicago, Myana was able to write and direct three short films during the pandemic as well as assist with various student projects. She is currently working as an Archival Researcher on an untitled Jesse Jackson Documentary with Docsville Studios.

Her favorite films are The Princess and the Frog, The Parent Trap, and Howl's Moving Castle.

Jonael Leon Guerrero

Jonael Leon Guerrero is a Pacific Islander producer, production designer, and screenwriter. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television at Columbia College Chicago. There, she started her first production design projects on short films like Cheeseburger and moved on to production design for other indie short films such as Hand Job. Additionally, she produced her first short film, Cola Dremann's "Why Don't You Care?" Movement. Additionally, she wrote, produced, and directed her short film called Fundraiser.

Julian Singer is a director, assistant director, and producer based in Chicago. He is currently in his last semester at Columbia College Chicago, where he studies filmmaking, and outside of school, he works on numerous independent short films, music videos, and the occasional feature film. He is ecstatic to work on Love Doctor as Assistant Director, not only because of the amazing crew but also because he wants to explore the world of the rom-com.

Connor Teubner is a cinematographer, graphic designer, and UX designer. He is currently studying at DePaul University for graphic design. He has worked on small short films and a documentary with his friends. Every little bit of detail goes into his work. He strives to reach aesthetically pleasing artwork with inspiration from impressionists like Van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Camille Pissaro, even within web design, balancing creativity, aesthetics, and user experience.

Laura Rosario is a writer and production designer. Laura graduated from Columbia College with a Bachelor’s degree in filmmaking in 2023 with a concentration in producing. Though she concentrated on film producing for most of her college career she fell in love with production design in her last year in school. She has also dipped her toes in other film roles such as director of photography, director, and gaffer. Besides film, Laura enjoys painting, drawing, sewing, and reading anything about everything.
