Nyla came to LOVEPAWS in January after she ended up on the urgent list at the Prince George's County, MD shelter. Thanks to a foster for stepping up, we were able to give this girl the second chance she deserves!

Unfortunately, we recently found out that Nyla is heartworm positive. She tested negative while at the shelter, but was taking antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection, which can sometimes cause false negatives. We're working with an incredible vet partner to get Nyla through treatment, but we could use your help to raise funds so that this unexpected medical cases doesn't set us back. Every dollar helps!

For those who don’t know - HW treatment is a looong process. HW is preventable by using monthly HW prevention or a 1 yr Proheart injection (easy peasy). Nyla has already started treatment and has to first be on Doxycycline for 30 days. After completing that, she'll need to get a series of 3 shots (which can make her feel not so great and make her back achy and painful). Nyla will be on crate rest this whole time and for about a month post-last injection (serious complications can arise as the heart worms die off so avoiding physical activity and stress is key!). Fellow dog owners, PLEASE do not overlook the importance of HW prevention!
