Your gift powers the training, research, and programmatic guidance that help survivors of domestic and sexual violence heal, while supporting communities to prevent violence before it begins.

Why We Do This Work

Every community holds people carrying the weight of violence and its traumatic effects. When one of them reaches out for help, what happens next matters.

Too often, the systems survivors turn to, like the courts, social services, and behavioral health services, are not prepared to respond to the complex impacts of violence and trauma. Lumina Institute works to change that.

Guided by survivor experiences, we bridge the gap between what survivors need and how organizations and communities respond. We help ensure that wherever survivors seek support, they meet people, programs, and systems prepared to offer effective, trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.

What Your Gift Makes Possible

Your support helps turn what we know into better responses for survivors and the communities around them.

Training the helpers. We equip advocates, clinicians, educators, and other professionals with trauma-informed resources grounded in what survivors say actually works.
Building the evidence. Our research turns survivor experiences into practical knowledge that organizations can act on.
Ensuring responsive policy. We help policymakers develop policies that promote survivor and community well-being.

Since 2015, our team has reached more than 91,000 professionals and delivered more than 1,100 trainings.

Why Now

Healing from domestic and sexual violence is possible. Prevention is, too. But neither can happen without sustained investment, and without people willing to keep asking one question: how can we do better for survivors?

Your annual fund gift helps Lumina answer that question every day. Because your gift is unrestricted, it goes where the need is greatest: sustaining our training programs, advancing our research, and keeping our doors open to every partner.
