You are invited to attend LWVTC's Annual Membership Meeting!

We'll honor our volunteers, celebrate the League's achievements, and hear from guest speakers, Andre Johnson, Monty Sharp, and former Tarrant County Commissioner Roy Brooks to discuss their work with the Tarrant County Reentry Coalition, which, since 2013, has been working with over 35 community organizations -- including LWVTC -- to assist the formerly incarcerated in reentering the community.

Check in begins at 11:30am. Lunch is served at 12:00pm. A plated lunch, coffee and tea, and dessert are included.

Members will vote on changes to the bylaws, program, budget, and elect our board leaders. Check back here on April 24th with more information on voting.

Special Guest Speakers:

Roy Brooks

For over 30 years, Roy Charles Brooks has represented his community as a Community Volunteer, a City Elected Official, and as County Commissioner. He embraces such values as Integrity, Innovation, and Growth.

Known for his strong leadership, ability to forge collaborations, and influential voice throughout the Country, Roy fights for the rights of those he serves. He continuously addresses healthcare issues in his community and has taken on issues such as: Breaking the Cycle of Poverty, Healthcare for the Homeless, Infant Mortality, Obesity, Access of Care, Health Disparities, Criminal Justice Reform, Mental Health, AIDS Education, Prostate Cancer Awareness, and Alzheimer’s Education. Roy is aggressively involved in the State and Federal levels of government to assist in developing programs that create and shape healthcare policy. He served as President of the National Association of Counties (NACo) from 2017-2018. His initiative as NACo’s President was raising awareness of the critical role counties play in breaking the cycle of poverty.

In December 2015, Roy received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Texas Wesleyan University.

Roy Charles Brooks is a committed husband to his wife Dr. Jennifer Giddings Brooks. They are the proud parents of two children: daughter, Royce, son, Marion, grandson, August Charles, and granddaughter, Simone Rose Brooks. He is an active, long-term member of Morningside United Methodist Church, an avid reader, a collector of African American art, a passionate music lover and a participant in the Adlee H. Trezevant Memorial Choir of the Historic I. M. Terrell High School.

Andre Johnson

Andre L. Johnson serves as the Director of Crime Prevention and Reentry Services for the Tarrant County Reentry First Stop Center, a division of Cornerstone Assistance Network. He is widely recognized for his strategic leadership, collaborative approach, innovative program development, and consistent delivery of measurable outcomes.

With more than 18 years of experience, Andre has designed programs, led special initiatives, and provided staff development for Workforce Solutions Boards across the country, as well as for the City of Fort Worth and numerous organizations throughout Tarrant County. His work spans critical areas including homelessness prevention, fatherhood and family strengthening, and adult reentry services.

Andre’s contributions have earned recognition at the local, state, and national levels. During his tenure as Special Projects Administrator for Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, he was appointed to work with Mayor Moncrief and local homeless service providers to launch Project WISH (Workforce Innovative Solutions to Homelessness). Through this initiative, his team established a consortium of 28 employers that hired more than 500 individuals experiencing homelessness within two years, achieving an 87% retention rate. His leadership earned him the prestigious Jodie Spiegel Enhancement of Customer Service Award from the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals in Washington, D.C., an honor presented to only one individual nationwide each year.

In his current role, Andre continues to drive transformative results. Under his leadership, the Tarrant County Reentry First Stop Center has achieved a 24% recidivism rate, significantly outperforming the county’s 57% rate. He also created and leads Tarrant County’s largest reentry job fair, Continuing the Climb—a collaborative event that has helped more than 400 job seekers secure employment over the past seven years.

Andre currently serves as Chairman of the Fatherhood Coalition of Tarrant County and is the newly elected Chairman of the Tarrant County Reentry Coalition. He is a degreed professional, holds an international ministry license, and is an ordained pastor.

Monty Sharp

Monty Sharp is the Reentry Services Coordinator at The Reentry First-Stop Center for Tarrant County, a division of Cornerstone Assistance Network. He is a Certified Life Coach, TTI Success Insights DISC Certified, Mentor, writer and public speaker. He has a relentless passion to make a positive impact in the lives of other formerly incarcerated people and help shape leaders. He has served thousands of men and women returning home from jail and prison, assisting them to successfully reintegrated back into the community.
