Hi, I’m Mohamed Luay Nasser, a 24-year-old medical graduate from Mansoura University. I’m originally from Gaza, where I survived three wars, and currently live in Mansoura, Egypt, for my studies. I’m working toward a career in surgery, preparing for the United States Medical Licensing Examination, and aiming to secure an elective training opportunity in the USA. My Story:

My name is Mohamed Luay Nasser, and I am a single Palestinian student. I spent my entire childhood in Gaza and survived three wars (2008, 2012, and 2014), along with intermittent skirmishes. My father, Dr. Luay Mohamed Nasser, is an internal medicine doctor specializing in endocrinology, while my mother, Marwa Ibrahim Nasser, graduated from the Faculty of Science and is now a housewife. I have three brothers: Ahmed, Mahmoud, and Ali.

Tragically, I lost my sister Lara at the age of 12 on November 3, 2011, due to a heart condition (ventricular defect and pacemaker electrical dysfunction) that she battled her entire life. Ahmed is currently studying medicine at Alexandria University, Mahmoud is in his final year of high school (tawjihi), and Ali is in 8th grade.

I completed my high school education with a tawjihi score of 93.4% and was accepted into Mansoura University in Egypt, where I began my studies in September 2018 and graduated in October 2023. The stress and late nights of intense studying led to my diagnosis of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). I obtained my bachelor’s degree in medicine on October 8, 2023, just one day after the war in Gaza started on October 7, 2023. During this time, our neighborhood in Rimal, Gaza, was targeted by the IDF without warning. My family survived by the grace of God, but as I was living abroad, I could not contact them for two days, which was extremely stressful and caused sleepless nights.

I began my internship in March 2024, marking the start of my clinical practice after medical school. This year, I will complete two years of practice. At the end of 2023, I started learning German and have since reached level B1. However, after careful consideration, I decided to change my career path and began preparing for the USMLE exams. I have completed a quarter of the journey and continue to progress. My goal is to obtain an elective in the USA and receive training in a surgical department there.
