As most of you know, I am taking part in the Marathon De Sables (MDS) for the third time. The MDS is the quintessential extreme challenge!!! 157+ miles across the Sahara Desert carrying everything you’ll need for the six-day journey, on your back. I believe it’s important to continue to challenge yourself. That there is an opportunity for real self-discovery found when one pushes the boundaries of their limitations.

I arrived in Ouarzazate on the 6th of April, about 6-days prior to the actual start, to get more acclimated and to finalize my gear. It’s a scramble to get fully prepared for this adventure.

We get transported by a 6-hour bus ride to the race start in the Sahara on Friday (12th) and for 2 days we go through gear and administrative checks and receive our route maps to navigate the course. We will be self-sufficient for those 2-days.

The race then starts on Sunday (14th) and we will run for 252.8 kilometers, the longest in the 38-year history of the race, over 6 stages, still self-sufficient other than water that we will collect at certain checkpoints along the course.

There will be about 600 runners representing over 60 countries. I'm one of 5 from the USA.

As a Board Member of "Beyond the Teams" I am using this event to raise funds and to highlight the efforts and accomplishments of this amazing non-profit. Beyond the Teams takes on extreme challenges to raise awareness and funds for diverse groups and individuals in need.
