When we heard about the devastating flooding in Kentucky last week, we knew we had to help. Friends of the McLean County KY Animal Shelter reached out to the rescue community for assistance. As floodwaters forced many families to evacuate, their pets were left behind with nowhere to go. In response, we immediately sent a team to lend a hand.

While there, we helped care for the animals and even assisted with water rescues. In total, approximately 40 pets were rescued from floodwaters and brought to safety. These pets are being cared for and remain in Kentucky so they can be reunited with their families.

Thanks to support from PetSmart Charities and BISSELL Pet Foundation, we were able to bring 22 pets back to the APA. These are pets who were already awaiting adoption at the Friends of the McLean County KY Animal Shelter. By bringing back adoptable pets who do not have families, we helped create space for displaced pets.

Upon arrival at the APA, our team quickly got to work providing veterinary care, food, and plenty of love for the pets who returned with us. But our work isn’t over. While some of these pets have already been adopted, there are still several who need us—and we need you.

A gift to the APA will help provide the additional medical care that some of them require.
