For me, supporting Manos Amigues is a way to carry on the work of Hank Wilson, about whom I made the documentary film Thanks to Hank. Hank practices a kind of gay activism that put poor people first, and which benefitted a bigger community that just LGBT people. Food was also a big part of Hank's work: if people are hungry then that comes first.
Manos Amigues follows those footsteps, and in such a beautiful way. Mexico City's first LGBT center, serving 5000 meals a month to migrants, unhoused people, and anyone else who shows up. Hank would love it!
