Maiden for Mary: From Crisis to Compassion
Our Goal: $5,000 to Secure Mary McCarty’s Home & Provide Financial Stability to a Local Leukemia Warrior
The Crisis: Meet Mary McCarty.
Mary is a courageous woman from Maiden, NC, who has been fighting a devastating battle against Chronic Lymphoblastic Leukemia (CLL) since 2021. For Mary, the battle is now about survival and stability.
Just months ago (December 3rd, 2025), Mary suffered the heartbreaking loss of her husband, John, who was her sole source of income and support. Mary spent the last of her savings on John's funeral expenses, grieving the loss of her husband while still undergoing active cancer treatment.
She was left with zero household income while urgently awaiting approval for social security disability. Mary is now two months behind on her rent and facing the imminent risk of eviction. No one should have to worry about losing their home while fighting for their life!
Who We Are: The Jackson Copeland Foundation (JCF)
The Jackson Copeland Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving outcomes for leukemia patients and providing crucial financial and logistical support to families facing this crisis. We believe that no one fights alone. We provided an emergency grant for Mary in January, but her needs extend beyond what our immediate funds can cover.
From Crisis to Compassion: Why $5,000?
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to move Mary From Crisis to Compassion. This target is aligned with our mission and the profound, supportive values of Catawba County:
Immediate Stability ($2,550): This covers her immediate past-due rent, plus April's rent, removing the looming threat of eviction so she can focus purely on her health and recovery.
A Bridge to Hope (The Remaining $2,450): As a volunteer-run organization, we know that financial support must be holistic. The remaining funds will serve as a critical buffer for Mary to cover upcoming essential costs—such as travel expenses to her treatment center in Georgia (over 100 miles away), utilities, medication costs, and additional months of rent—while she navigates the complex and time-consuming process of securing long-term disability benefits.
Maiden's Values: The Catawba County and Maiden community is known for its strong neighbor-helping-neighbor spirit. This campaign is a chance to live that value out loud. By securing a home for Mary, we are affirming that we care for our own, demonstrating community compassion, and ensuring one of our neighbors can continue her fight with dignity.
