NYC veteran textbook publisher, Carlton Taylor, can read the writing on the proverbial wall... he's a dinosaur in an industry looking to innovate and peddle convenient un-truths to the highest bidder. Unlucky in life and love, Carlton's job and the relationships he has built there are his only passion and life support. Once the inevitable happens, Carlton loses hope and falls even harder on his constant crutch, alcohol. At rock bottom, Carlton reluctantly reconnects with a mysterious, familiar figure, Major, who escorts him through a 'dark night of the soul' where Cartlon is forced to confront his deepest fears and lost loves while rediscovering forgotten talents. Can Carlton find redemption...or are some people just ultimately doomed?

CARLTON TAYLOR (Fortune's Fool): 52, 5’9, driven yet broken 25+ year veteran of the crumbling textbook publishing industry. Unlucky in love and life, Carlton's one purpose is being slowly stripped away...and, after a major event that causes a cerebral artery aneurysm, Carlton spirals into unfamiliar worlds and descends into the unknown.

MAJOR (Childhood Companion): Major disappeared from Carlton's life over 30 years ago due to a traumatic house fire that stripped Carlton of his entire family. Major is everything Carlton aspires to be...courageous, self-confident, and easygoing. It is Major's reappearance that aids Carlton on a journey of self-discovery and adventure.

TINA WRIGHT (Work Wife): Late 40s, Carlton's 'Girl Friday', Tina came up through the publishing world with Carlton and knows his every secret, bad habit, and ultimate potential.

SPENCER WILEY (Work Buddy): Early 30s, the closest thing Carlton has to a guy-friend. Spencer is handsome, self-assured, and ready to take his place in an industry that has long been lacking innovation.

HIROTO LAMBERT (The New Boss): Early 20s, Silacone Valley's latest wunderkind, Hiroto seeks to change every industry he focuses on...which makes conservative 'old school' Carlton very uneasy...and for good reason.

ARCHIE MCCAIN (The Old Boss): Late 60s, Archie started the publishing company Carlton is seeking to preserve. That Archie has been dead for over 10 years definitely makes his reappearance to Carlton a shocking one.

"MAJOR PROBLEMS GIVES US ALL HOPE AND CATHARSIS"

Time is more important than money. You can't tow a U-Haul behind a Hearse. Choose your "life-is-short euphemism" and that's the conclusion we came to at Grayson Berry Productions. From a time-traveling elevator and Alien invasion to an old west showdown at high noon, CARLTON'S imagination or reality is our magic carpet ride, and it's a lovely ride.

We will shoot this in 2:35:1 using Anamorphic Prime Lenses to feature all the vivid imagery of our tale. We are seeking a nostalgic 1980s feel as an homage to New York City at its height showcasing that our "hero" is a man out of time. Harsh Blues and Yellows will highlight the moments of "other-worldliness" while Beiges and Greens will show the mundane moments of a monotonous life.

Framing will be specific, and run the gamut, always against a light source: from super tights to long shots to accentuate a character's intentions.
The Camera will be an active participant for each protagonist. From POV to slider-establishing shots, MAJOR PROBLEMS’s cinematic feel will stay with our audience long after the closing credits.

In order to make the best Independent Film we can, our team is required to...

• Hire a 110% committed crew (fortunately, our team comes with their own gear: Sliders, GIBs, Lavaliers, Drone, etc)

• Lock down amazing locations (potentially NJ's Bell Works where HBO's Severance is filmed)

• Cast the best available supporting actors & extras (Our Leads Ryan, Grayson & Raffaele were specifically written for and they're free!)

• Aquire Production Insurance (Our Time-Traveling Elevator & Wild West Showdown require all safety precautions be taken)

• Create/Source Production Design/Props (Our amazing Designer is excited to construct our Alien Claw [you'll see], as well as dress our Ferryman's Boat!)

• Feed the People! Sustenance!!! (Great daily meals and Craft Service = Happy Cast & Crew!)

LUCKILY, we've done this all before in our 2022 Feature Film, VORTEX A Film Anthology (available on multiple streaming platforms)... and fortunately, our shooting schedule rarely exceeds 10 hours.

Likewise, our network of 'helpful citizens' lends itself to a bigger 'looking' budget, without the 'bigger' cost.

BY THE NUMBERS: Budget Percentage Breakdown

As this Pie Chart showcases, the CREW and LOCATIONS account for the largest portions of our future Production Budget with the CREW accounting for 50% of the total cost – this includes the salaries of the director, producers, actors, cinematographer(s), editor(s), and other key members of the team.

LOCATIONS are the second largest expense, at 12% of the budget. This includes the cost of renting or building sets, as well as the cost of permits and fees.
CAST and EXTRAS make up 11% of the budget. This includes the salaries of the actors, as well as the cost of hiring extras.
PRODUCTION INSURANCE is 9% of the budget. This covers the cost of insuring the film against damage, theft, and other unforeseen events.
PRODUCTION DESIGN is 8% of the budget. This includes the cost of designing and building sets, as well as costumes/hair/makeup, etc.
MEALS and CRAFTY are 7% of the budget. This covers the cost of feeding the cast and crew, as well as the cost of providing snacks and drinks.
LODGING is 2% of the budget. This covers the cost of housing the cast and crew during filming.
PROPS are 1% of the budget. This covers the cost of purchasing/renting/or building props for the film.

These percentages are just a general guideline, and the actual breakdown of a film budget will vary depending on the script and location. However, this gives you a good idea of how the major expenses of a film budget are typically allocated.

PRE-PRODUCTION: Now - late Juen 2024. We are currently in the process of locking locations, checking crew availability, and doing a table read to iron out the kinks!
