💔 Mario was left behind.
And then he almost died for it.

Mario #A1249141 came into Kern County Animal Services with his sister, Peach.

They were bonded.
They had each other.
They were probably the only familiar thing either one of them had left.

Then Peach was adopted.

And Mario stayed behind.

No sister.
No family.
No soft bed.
No idea why his whole world had just changed again.

Then, because shelter life is brutal and overcrowded and stressful, Mario got sick with kennel cough.

And just like that, this sweet boy — already confused, already alone, already left behind — was placed on a 24-hour euthanasia warning.

Because he coughed.

Not because he was dangerous.
Not because he was broken.
Not because he did anything wrong.

Because he was sick in a shelter that did not have room for sick dogs.

Honestly, the bar is in hell and somehow kennel cough found a shovel. 🫠

But Mario’s story did not end there.

The Tribe saw him.
The Tribe shared him.
The Tribe refused to let a treatable URI become the final chapter of his life.

Now we need to get him healthy. He needs a vet visit, URI treatment, recovery boarding while he rides out the kennel cough, a CVI, and long-distance transport to his next chapter.

🏥 Boarding: $525 — 21 days at $25/day while he recovers
