Matt Vincent is a lifelong Jefferson resident. He left his Weldon Road home to go to college and returned with his future wife, Kim. They moved next door to his childhood home, where his father still lives, and were soon blessed with two wonderful boys, Jack and Vet.

In 2006, Matt ditched his corporate job and started Northeast Furniture Studio, a custom furniture and woodworking studio. Matt poured his life (and savings) into his lifelong dream of creating unique, beautiful furniture.

On June 14, 2024, however, the Vincents’ quiet American Dream was rattled when Matt, almost overnight, began to have excruciating back pain and lost feeling in his hands and feet. By the time he got to Morristown Medical Center, he could not move. He soon lost the ability to speak. He was put on a ventilator. The doctors had to perform a tracheotomy. Matt was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, an extremely rare condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves. There is no known cause or cure.

After a month in Morristown, Matt was transferred to Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, where he continues to relearn how to walk, talk, eat, and perform all of the activities of daily living that we take for granted.

Matt was a college football player. He is strong. He is determined. But he needs our help. His friends, family, employees, clients, Boy Scout groups, Ski Patrol colleagues, and an untold number of community members will gather for a silent auction and raffle fundraiser at Camp Jefferson on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Any donation to this event would be greatly appreciated and all proceeds will go directly to the Vincent family to help them through this trying time.
