Maui Strong Fund Giving Tuesday Campaign

On the morning of August 9, 2023, the Hawai‘i Community Foundation (HCF) activated the Maui Strong Fund in response to the devastating wildfires on Maui.

The Maui Strong Fund provides critical funding for nonprofit organizations that provide essential needs like food and shelter, financial and medical assistance, mental health care, and other vital resources that will aid in the long-term recovery needs for the people and places impacted by the Maui wildfires.

In the three months since the fires, thanks to your generosity HCF has been able to deploy grants to 134 organizations that are providing essential services and resources to help the people of Maui. But there is much more work to be done.

One of the many areas of immediate need being addressed by HCF and its partners is housing. With more than 13,000 families and individuals displaced by the Maui fires, people throughout Hawai‘i opened their homes to friends and family members who needed a place to stay.

In October, HCF, along with the American Red Cross, the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, and the County of Maui launched a new, first-of-its-kind program called the Host Housing Support Program, to provide financial assistance to host families. The program offers up to $1,500 in monthly assistance to help cover the costs of additional food and added expenses associated with hosting displaced families. The goal of the program is to provide much-needed stability to these families. Like many household expenses, these stipends are monthly—which is why we are asking you to continue your support today with a monthly gift to Maui.

The Host Housing Support Program is just one of the many initiatives you are supporting with a donation to the Maui Strong Fund today. Click here to learn more about the Maui Strong Fund and the partners that have received grant awards and the work they are doing on Maui.

Please make a gift today to support the thousands of people impacted by the wildfires.
