About Maverick's Angel Fund

The field of veterinary medicine involves a complex interplay between veterinarians, pets, and their caregivers. A significant challenge is managing the financial aspects of care, especially the steep and often unexpected costs of surgery. It's not uncommon to see owners depleting their savings, 401(k), or seeking loans and help from family and friends to afford their pets' medical needs. Heartbreakingly, sometimes veterinarians must euthanize pets with treatable conditions due to the owner's financial constraints, and the toll this takes on the pet owners and the veterinary team is profound.

I'm Dr. Olivia Winson, and having experienced the challenges of our field firsthand over nearly a decade of emergency surgery and medicine, I founded Maverick Veterinary Surgery Service to help bridge the financial gap in surgical care. We will offer emergency, urgent, and elective veterinary surgery (soft tissue and select orthopedic), performed by a highly-trained, experienced, and trusted non-board certified veterinarian. Surgery requests happen in real-time, so the pets that need help get it when they need it most.

We developed an innovative business model that allows us to keep costs to a minimum, while still providing top-notch care. Picture a surgical SWAT team—an outpatient clinic exclusively designed for referral surgeries. We've refined our operations leveraging the very best of technology and research to optimize not only surgical and anesthetic outcomes, but post-operative recovery as well, without the constraints of 24-hour service, diverse appointments, or bustling front desk. Our singular focus, and investment solely in essentials that elevate our care, allow us to devote our undivided attention to surgical cases, maximizing efficiency and resulting in significantly reduced costs. We aim to make our services accessible to all pet owners, regardless of their financial situation, through a partnership with 501(c) Saving Gracie. This collaboration enables us to offer some surgeries for free or at even more significantly reduced cost.

About Saving Gracie

Saving Gracie began its work in 2016 in service to pets who might otherwise be euthanized because their owners couldn’t afford emergency care, but we soon realized our impact was broader than that. Our program saves more than the pet’s life. It preserves the health-giving bond that exists between humans and their pets. We cover the cost of veterinary services for pet owners who are struggling and need financial assistance. We are recognized by both the state of California and the IRS as tax exempt. Tax ID#47-4565716. All donations made to the Maverick Angel Fund are considered tax deductible through our fiscal sponsorship model C relationship.

About Fiscal Sponsorship

Model C (Preapproved Grant) is a grantor-grantee relationship between the sponsor and the project, which is a separate legal entity. This includes both one-time arrangements enabling a project to obtain the proceeds of a particular grant from a private foundation or donor via a sponsor, as well as ongoing arrangements where a sponsor receives funds raised over time and grants funds from time to time to a project.
