Hello! My name is Max Coffin and I am attempting to run a marathon in every state to raise awareness for the Samuel L. Asbury Foundation.

I’m grateful to have grown close to Sam in college, and to have experienced the true impact he had on everyone around him. He was the funniest person I ever met and a tremendous all-around athlete. But in my opinion his most admirable trait was his infectious personality, and his ability to light up a room by heightening the mood of everyone he came in contact with. I will always miss him dearly. Unfortunately, his story of a life cut short by suicide is far too common in today’s world, especially among young adults.

Race Status:

After starting in October 2023, currently 9 states down (Maine, Alabama, Texas, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Virginia, Louisiana, Connecticut, and Missouri).

I’m not sure exactly how long this will take, and as a relatively novice distance runner I can’t say I’ll be competing for any podiums along the way. But I can promise that so long as my body stays healthy, the miles will be logged with full effort, and I will do my best everywhere to bring light to Sam’s story. In talking with Sam’s family and the foundation we agreed this would be best accomplished taking inspiration from Sam’s light-hearted personality.
