Though 42% of the US population identify as BIPOC, there aren't enough accessible communal opportunities rooted in dance, the oldest form of communication & storytelling that reflects their unique, often unspoken histories & cultures. In response to this, MODArts Dance Collective (MADC) was founded in 2011 for artists of color to strive to show up as their authentic selves inside & out of the studio; to cultivate platforms for BIPOC dancers, choreographers, & cinematographers to share their lived experiences to assist in amplifying their reach & impact; and to provide open, supportive spaces for BIPOC communities to heal, grow, & thrive.
MADC's annual public programs include: Collective Thread Dance Festival & Residency, a platform for BIPOC women choreographers; Move to Change Festival, a social justice/arts activism platform for BIPOC choreographers and filmmakers; Me < We: A Solo Dance Concert, MADC’s annual Company concert; and Me < We: A Workshop, a creative resource for BIPOC teenage artists.
Since our inception we have served 382 BIPOC choreographers, 140 BIPOC youth, over 500 performing artists, and 2,554 audience members.
Please consider assisting us in serving Black & Brown communities by providing open, supportive, & affirming spaces through our annual programming, including our choreographic work, festivals, concerts, residencies, and workshops.
