For over 24 years, Friends of Firefighters has been a reliable source of support, providing free, independent, and confidential mental health and wellness services to active and retired FDNY members and their families. We’ve worked tirelessly to build trust, break the stigma surrounding mental health care, and ensure our services are accessible when they’re needed most.

Today, the demand for our services is at an all-time high. Since 2018, we’ve seen a 307% increase, providing over 4,500 counseling sessions in 2024 alone. We’re seeing the children of first responders struggling with anxiety and suicidal ideation, underscoring the urgent need for expanded support such as our Bravest Children program.

Meeting this growing need comes at a tremendous cost. Despite our best efforts, our funding has not kept pace, and we have had to cut our staff hours by 50%. Without immediate support, this means fewer services, longer wait times, and a diminished ability to care for the FDNY community we love.

We refuse to let this happen.

We’re launching our campaign to Meet The Need and secure our future. Our goal is to restore staffing, continue operating at full capacity, and grow with the evolving needs of our community.

On May 16th, 2025, we’re hosting a major fundraising event at our headquarters in Red Hook, Brooklyn. We invite you to join us in support! This event will include our annual Firehouse Chili Cook-Off, drinks, dancing, raffles and more!
