Marhaba! Welcome!
Please join this opportunity to support mutual aid for displaced children in central Gaza! Life is precious. Indeed, it could end in a moment.
Our mission
Highlighting and retaining love, Palestinian culture, and celebrating the hearts, minds, and welfare of children surviving and facing occupation, famine, displacement, and paving a way to momentarily pause and process their collective and sustained trauma under illegal occupation through musical activities and workshops.
Your participation
Muhannad needs our help in financing and sustaining his efforts in providing direct community outreach, music therapy, and care. Prices of goods have inflated exponentially in the region, unprecedented even in the many years under the blockade. We have a wonderful opportunity to support each other.
In Muhannad's own words
" I enjoy doing this work because I feel I am working with the most honest feelings on earth, which are children. When they would come to musical activities, they showed up in clean clothes and excited to participate. Even now, when they hear there are activities scheduled, they come clean and wear their best clothes. The difference is, that before the war, we used to perform in a clean, enclosed hall, but because most structures have been destroyed and there are no longer any halls open, we must do our activities in the street.
I see the eyes of the children when they sing and I play for them. I see hope, and that they want life, play, energy, and to achieve their small dreams that could end in a moment due to Israeli bombing. "
About Muhannad
A talented and skilled musician, he studied under Professor Abu Hisham Surour at Said Darwish Institute. Before this endeavor, he caught the eye of Fares Anbar, the percussionist with the popular band Sol. Seeing his talents and how he used them in his community, he brought him to university. Once enrolled, Muhannad studied oud, guitar, violin, and all percussion instruments. After graduating, he continued his pursuit in using music and theater as a means of connecting and providing therapy to the children in community struggling under the system of war and apartheid. Muhannad is also a talented producer. It is easy to see his passion for music, culture, family, and community care.
He currently shelters in place at his partially destroyed home with his family, siblings, nieces and nephews. He survived an Israeli attack on his home in March, and was trapped under the rubble for close to 10 minutes before getting rescued. I personally cannot imagine the literal and metaphorical weight. He sustained physical injuries that have since healed. The emotional injuries, however, do not have time to heal under occupation. This goes for children and adults alike. Our support goes a long way not just financially, but resists imposed separation across borders, opens the channels of collective love and liberation, and proudly promotes hope, resilience, and humanity.
