In Memory of Ruth Heinemann

At The Arc Lexington, we strive every day to enhance the lives of people with autism and developmental disabilities. Through support that fosters independence, community engagement, and personal growth, we help each person live life to their fullest potential, regardless of their abilities.

Over time, deep and meaningful relationships are formed among the people we support, their families, and our staff. These connections often become like family, making the loss of a loved one deeply felt throughout our entire community.

The Arc Lexington in Schoharie is expanding an existing garden area to create a sensory and memorial garden—a peaceful outdoor space where the people we support and staff can enjoy nature, engage their senses, and find a quiet place for reflection and remembrance.

This project began years ago through the generosity of the Heinemann family. In gratitude for the compassionate care their brother, Gary Heinemann, received during the final 20 years of his life at The Arc Lexington in Schoharie, they provided the initial funding to establish this special garden space.

Now, as they honor the life of their mother, Ruth Heinemann, who recently passed away at the age of 101, the family wishes to continue that legacy of kindness and remembrance.
