Message of Hope

This summer we want you to be a part of something special. Encouragement is something we could all use more of right now and we need your help providing our incredible girls and their parents with a little extra love. Would you take a moment and write a note of encouragement to our residents or their parents? Maybe the note says exactly what you needed to hear as a teen or maybe your family has been through what our families are going through and you want to cheer them on from the other side. I hope Monica’s story inspires you to do so.

“When my daughter was 10 years old she witnessed the sudden death of her dad and experienced amnesia, anxiety, depression, severe PTSD, and later I found out sexual assault. I say my daughter, but in all honesty it had a huge impact on the whole family!

My daughter began having severe nightmares, separation anxiety, and panic attacks. She would stay in my room with her hand on my heart to be sure I was breathing during the night. She was scratching herself and it was getting harder and harder for her to go to school. She had thoughts of suicide which landed her in the hospital for a week. My baby was sick and I couldn’t make it better. It’s the worst pain a parent can feel. I was begging God for help.

Then help came in the way of House of Hope. We had a wonderful therapist who had heard of this organization where my daughter could live in a safe, loving, and therapeutic environment and go to school. School? She hadn’t even been able to open the door to walk inside the school for an entire semester. It was the hardest decision but the best decision I ever made.

She learned healthy life and coping skills, and was not only able to catch up with her peers in school, she also earned high honor roll. She never gave up and the staff never gave up on her because she was and is worth it! House of Hope enabled us to both heal, which gave me the empowerment and confidence to parent her. She has learned wonderful skills and has phenomenal self-awareness to help her navigate when she has those dark days. 14 years later, she keeps many things as reminders of what God has brought her through. One of them is some special words from her uncle reminding her that, “We know you have the strength in you to get through this challenge and you have our love and support. There is nothing I wouldn't do for you.” His encouraging words meant just as much then as they do today.”

Thank you for considering taking the time to give the beloved families in our care encouragement they can carry in their hearts always. The last week of June, we are going to “plant” these notes on our campus and allow our community of clients to take in the field of encouragement. We want the girls to see just how big the village of people is that are rooting for them. We want a hurting parent to feel seen and cheered for. We want them to know you believe in them through your own words. We can’t wait to see how this comes together!
