Reconciliation: Our Shared Path Toward Healing

At the core of everything we do lies a simple, profound belief: real healing happens when we stop treating each other as strangers and start showing up as relatives.

While our daily work spans four interconnected pillars—Gen 7 Youth, Alleviating Poverty, Indigenous Wisdom, and Reconciliation—today we want to focus on our efforts to advance Reconciliation.

Reconciliation isn't just a goal or a historical concept; it is a lived practice of dialogue, connection, and honesty, a commitment to bridging the distance between Native and non-Native communities. Whenever we come together, these core principles guide our efforts:

  • Honest Dialogue: Looking at historical and ongoing trauma with honest, open eyes—creating safe, intentional spaces where deep emotional and spiritual restoration can take root.

  • Cultivating True Kinship: Moving far beyond surface-level outreach to build authentic, lasting friendships and trust across cultural lines.

  • Reciprocity: Stemming from mutual respect and side-by-side work —recognizing that every person brings unique gifts to the table and that we all have something to learn from one another.

Whether you are working side-by-side on a Volunteer Service Trip or sitting in deep conversation at a local gathering, this commitment to reconciliation unfolds across each moment of cross-cultural, intergenerational work. It invites each of us to drop our defenses, listen deeply, and participate in the healing of our shared human family.

We've had the honor of witnessing countless moments that move reconciliation forward:

An emotional, honest, and healing encounter between descendants of both the Wounded Knee Massacre's victims and perpetrators. A spontaneous and raw dialogue about the reality of poverty and housing insecurity on the Pine Ridge Reservation that inspired youth leaders to take real action. A Buffalo Harvest led by a young Lakota man, bolstered by the prayers and support of dozens of Native and non-Native students.

These little moments add up over time, building an open and shared reality that acknowledges the past, honors the possibilities of the present, and moves us all into a brighter and more connected future.

If you are ready to listen, share, and help build bridges of true understanding, we would be honored to have you join us.

In friendship,
