Sustainably Speaking: May 2026

Sustainably Speaking, expected quarterly, will provide you with tips on greening your home, resources on sustainable choices you can make in your community, and upcoming events that foster sustainability.

June 27th: 2nd Annual Community Green Fest

Green Fest is BACK! Last summer, we were thrilled with how our community came together to learn, play and grow. The desire to live more sustainable is prevalent, and we had so many excellent presenters, vendors and activities, and this year we have MORE. Save the date, mark your calendars, tell all your friends. Walk, ride your bike, or carpool. It's going to be amazing!

We need your help at Green Fest!

Are you interested in helping us make Green Fest a success? Do you know a high schooler that needs volunteer hours? Do you love everything green? Sign up to help us! We have shifts throughout the day from setup to compost guide to seed ball making. Not around that day but want to lend a hand? We are looking to borrow 10x10 pop up tents, chairs and tables! Sign up to lend us your things!

Free is our favorite price

Striving for Sustainability's Community Green Fest is free to all. Sharing with our neighbors what it takes to take care of out planet is our passion, and we couldn't do it without your support. Consider donating to help us keep Green Fest, all our community swaps, the Kids' Holiday Shop, and our awesome website with all the information you need FREE for everyone!

The Toy Swap

We partnered with the Rowley Public Library again this year to bring Rowley's (and the surrounding town's) kids AWESOME FREE TOYS. As we outgrow our beloved toys--so many of them made of plastic--sometimes it is hard to find a new home for them and keep them out of landfills. This event showed our town how so many toys we want already exist, and sharing really is caring. And the looks on these kids' faces when they found that perfect toy? Priceless. Literally.

Join us and the Rowley Public Library for all our free swaps. Why buy new when your neighbor may have just what you need?!

Composting: Black Earth Style

In 2011, Conor Miller started Black Earth Compost with a single truck in Gloucester, MA. His radical idea was simple yet revolutionary: food scraps are a resource, not waste. Black Earth has steadily grown to become the leading full service compost company in New England, with over 40 trucks and 4 compost facilities. The vertically integrated company composts the material too, transforming it into a valuable agricultural resource, closing the loop on food waste.

Curious about Black Earth curbside composting for your home? Every other week pickup in Rowley is $16.99/month or $94.99 every 6 months. Check them out!
