Welcome, Haley Rudolph!
We would like to start by giving a warm welcome to new CSOMV board member Haley Rudolph! “Haley Rudolph is a professional string performer, pedagogue, conductor, and facilitator of musical events. She has been playing violin since the age of three and grew up attending her father's concerts with the Sound Symphony on Long Island. After twenty-five years of classical training, she branched out to electronic five-string instruments and regularly performs with blues and folk bands in the Mohawk Valley. She fell in love with the sound of the Clinton Symphony after attending her first concert in May 2025 and is currently giving back her talents to the children of Rome City Schools. Haley has had the privilege of putting on successful concerts with all levels of ensemble from beginners through conservatory and professional players. She is most excited about using her experiences as an assistant to renowned conductors who she has watched build flourishing ensembles, create financial wealth for musical organizations, and welcome inclusive community and audience participation in classical music. Miss Rudolph holds degrees in Music Education from SUNY Potsdam, a Masters in Orchestral Conducting from Bard College, and will earn her Administration Certificate through Molloy College.” Welcome, Haley Rudolph!

A Side-By-Side Celebration!
We are delighted to invite you to our next concert, on Saturday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Clinton Performing Arts Complex. This exciting program celebrates beloved orchestral works, rich cultural traditions, and the power of mentorship through music.
🎻The Program:
Capriccio Brillante on the “Jota Aragonesa” – Mikhail Glinka: This is a seminal orchestral work born from Glinka’s particular fascination with Spanish folk music while traveling, and is considered the first major Russian work to utilize Spanish idioms. This piece is inspired by the Jota, a ¾ time Spanish folk dance characterized by fast-paced tempo, performed by couples holding arms high and clicking castanets.
Andante Festivo – J. Sibelius: This piece will be performed side-by-side with high school students! Stay tuned for a breakdown on what a side-by-side performance is. Andante Festivo was composed in 1922 for a string quartet, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Säynätsalo plywood mill in Finland. The performance of this piece was the last time Sibelius conducted in public, and it was also played at his funeral.
Waltz No. 2 from Jazz Suite – D. Shostakovich This will feature another side-by-side performance between CSOMV musicians and high school string students. This piece was originally composed as part of the soundtrack for The First Echelon, and was long misidentified as the lost Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2. The actual suite was recovered in 1999. Waltz No. 2 is famous for its dark, brooding undertones with a typical ¾ time signature.
Carmen Suite No. 1 and No. 2 – G. Bizet This is a work posthumously compiled following Bizet’s death in 1875. It is designed to bring the melodies of an originally poorly received opera into the concert hall. The Carmen Suites’ structure does not follow the chronological order of the opera, and rather focuses on orchestral highlights and thematic richness. The Clinton Symphony Orchestra of the Mohawk Valley will have our Maestro, Octavio Mas-Orocas, guide us through these beautiful pieces with rich history.
🌟 What is a Side-by-Side concert?
As you have seen above, our May concert features side-by-side performance, which involves young emerging musicians, in our case local high school string students, performing the same music shoulder to shoulder with seasoned professional players in the orchestra. This works to promote mentorship and community engagement. Students feel inspired being able to perform on stage with their mentors, networking, and creating lifelong relationships. Professionals get to experience the lively energy of young musicians along with the dynamic and spontaneous energy they bring to a concert.
I would like to publicly thank Judy Marchione for being the driving force behind the Clinton Symphony for the past few years. Judy is a bassoonist with the orchestra. She has volunteered countless hours making concert arrangements, enlisting personnel, planning programs, and doing anything else that needs to be done to successfully put on performances. Thank you, Judy!
The Clinton Symphony is looking to a bright future. New leadership has been put into place, and several new board members have been recruited. The board is enthusiastically looking to the future. Plans for the May 30 concert are well underway. The exciting program will once again be directed by our inspiring young conductor, Octavio Más-Arocas. Please plan on joining us on May 30th for this thrilling program.
As always, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the ongoing need for money to keep professional orchestral music alive in the Mohawk Valley. Please consider making a donation.
See you on May 30th
