Community Plant & Seed Swap

When: Saturday, May 9 at 10:00am (sharp!)
Arrive 5-10 minutes early to set up

Where: Guilford Community Park Pavilion, 24 Church Dr., Guilford, VT

Celebrate spring at the annual spring Community Plant Swap. We'll exchange our extra seeds, plant starts, houseplants, and perennial divisions as we get ready for the new gardening season. Don’t have anything to swap? That’s OK! There’ll be plenty of plants for everyone.

Please arrive on time! We can not control the exuberance of gardeners swapping plants. In past years, people began swapping right away and late comers missed out on some of the fun.

This year the Guilford Recreation Commission will be running yard games during the swap, too. There'll be plenty of fun for all!

No registration required for this free community event.

Everyday Farm

Hannah Sol and Joe Connelly of Everyday Farm in Bernardston are dedicated to raising high-quality lamb, pork, beef, chicken, and eggs using regenerative farming techniques. Their livestock are moved to fresh forage daily or every few days throughout the growing season, a practice that makes for happy and healthy animals and also significantly improves soil health.

You can often spot their animals grazing in Bernardston and surrounding towns as they work to revitalize the local farmland. You can find their pasture-raised, organically-fed eggs (multi-colored regular and jumbo brown) and 100% grass-fed lamb year round at the Guilford Food Hub.

NRFC Food Security Fund

In late 2025, Neighborhood Roots launched the Food Security Fund. This community-built safety net ensures no neighbor is left hungry when food budgets run short. What started as an emergency response to federal funding disruptions in 2025 quickly became something larger: our community raised over $6,000 in the first three months, and has contributed $6,370 altogether.

To date, we've disbursed nearly $3,000 directly to Guilford Food Hub buyers. Those funds reach neighbors in two ways. First, any buyer feeling food insecure can add up to $50 in coupons when they place their order, no explanation required. Second, through donated food: farmers and vendors who sell through our market regularly contribute items at no cost, all listed in the Extras section of the online Food Hub Market.

The Fund is active, ongoing, and always open to contributions. If you'd like to help keep local food accessible for every member of this community, any donation, large or small, goes directly to work right here in Guilford.

Comfrey Commons Pause for 2026

Comfrey Commons, our little Pay-What-You-Want nursery, will be on a semi-break this year as Anna and her family build a house (!!!) and move to the other side of Guilford. There won't be open nursery hours in 2026, but a selection of plants will be available through the Guilford Food Hub, with all proceeds benefiting the work of Neighborhood Roots.

If all goes according to plan, we'll be open again next year with regular nursery hours at our new location near Guilford Center!

Autumn Hill Project Update

Did you know that Neighborhood Roots is developing land? At the end of Autumn Hill Drive in Guilford, right behind the Guilford Central School soccer field sits a beautiful 20 acre parcel that Neighborhood Roots is leasing for agricultural development.

Over the past two years, our board has been busy working with local contractors to fill in an old house foundation, install electricity on site, and get the well up and running again. Last fall, we completed these first three goals.

Now we are finally ready to get growing! We are excited to host two different projects on site: The People’s Medicine Garden and Up The Road Farm. The People’s Medicine Garden is a community garden that began to establish beds for medicinal herbs last summer, and now will be able to plant these beds this summer. Up The Road Farm is a small Guilford vegetable farm needing more land and facilities to grow its operation. This summer the farm is growing potatoes with the Guilford Central School 3rd graders through the farm-to-school program and working to establish field space for next year.
