☃️With a new year underway and snowflakes in the air, January is here and our Shuang Wen community is off to a bright start. ☃️
📰Latest News 📰
At our most recent PA General Meeting, Principal Kabinoff & District 1 Superintendent Carry Chan answered questions from parents about the proposed middle school relocation.
If you would like to read answers to key questions, the minutes can be found here in our public folder.
The PA will host a presentation by the Office of Food and Nutrition Services at our March 18th meeting. If you have questions about the Shuang Wen cafeteria for Chrisula Sartzetakis, the supervisor for all D1 schools’ food services, please submit them through this Google form.
🥮 Lunar New Year Gala and Silent Auction Kickoff🥮
The second annual Lunar New Year Gala is coming up on February 27!
The Gala will also kick off bidding for our 9th Annual Lunar New Year Silent Auction, the PA’s biggest fundraiser. Volunteer signup is here.
Early bird tickets are available for $15pp through February 6, and $20pp thereafter.
Due to seating capacity in the auditorium, tickets will not be available at the door.
📚Chinese Book Fair 📚
The Chinese Book Fair with Yo! Baby is February 2nd - 6th. Volunteers & Class Reps, we need help ringing up students’ purchases. Volunteer signup is open!
🏕️Taiwan Summer Camp Planning Workshop 🏕️
On January 31st at 9pm, Grace Jung will lead a Zoom workshop about how to book a Mandarin language camp in Taiwan. She’ll cover how to look for camps, travel and booking tips, etc.

📸 Fifth Grade Yearbook Photos 📸
Fifth grade yearbook design is starting soon! Parents should upload photos as soon as possible to the Google Drive link that teachers shared in December. Fifth grade parents are requested to submit:
Baby headshot – please label with your child’s name
Current 5th grade photo – label with name
Photos from previous years – upload to the appropriate year folder
If you or your 5th grader want to participate in the design, let Dina (Gus's mom) know at [email protected].
☕Recent Events ☕
The Holiday Hot Chocolate Celebration for kids at lunch on Dec. 22 was a cozy, joyful way to wrap up the school year. Thank you to all who volunteered.
The Scholastic Book Fair had over $12,000 in sales, earning more than $6,000 in Scholastic dollars for the school. Thank you to Terri Lu for organizing, and to all parent volunteers. Happy reading!

Volunteer with the PA for these upcoming events, activities, and fundraisers!
We need help with 8th grade graduation photos on Feb 5. This is also the make-up date for younger kids who missed the fall photos.
Valentine’s Day Treat!
On Friday, February 13, the PA will provide a Valentine’s Day treat for students during lunch. A huge thank-you to parent Allison Wyman for suggesting and organizing this event. Volunteer sign ups will be shared soon!

Half-Day Bake Sale, March 19 - We are looking for a parent to lead the spring half-day bake sale. The executive board will provide guidance and support. Reach out to [email protected] if you can help.
Chinese Games Night, March 13th: This is an exciting new event! Contact Grace and Kaia at [email protected] to help plan!

💰Approved Funding Requests💰
At our January 21st meeting, parents voted to approve:
$2,500 of additional funds for SHSAT test prep so that students can prepare for the adaptive testing model using Kweller’s digital platform.
The PA has set aside $10,000 in mini-grants funding for teacher- and staff-proposed projects and purchases for the benefit of Shuang Wen students!
If your child’s classroom teacher has an idea or need, please encourage them to apply!
