From the Ground: A Season of Renewal

From the Ground in Cambodia

As we approach Khmer New Year (April 14), we pause to reflect on a powerful start to the year. One shaped by connection, progress, and presence.

During her recent visit to Cambodia, Jamie Amelio spent time on the ground in classrooms, in conversation with students and teachers, and within the communities we serve.

Because at Caring for Cambodia, we believe real impact happens boots on the ground where listening leads to action, and everyday moments shape long-term change.

Today, CFC supports more than 11,000 students across 36 schools.
And behind every number is a story of resilience, growth, and possibility.

Listening That Leads to Action

Some of the most important moments of this visit happened around a table.

Students shared their experiences.
Teachers offered insight.
Ideas were exchanged openly.

One student shared that before joining CFC, she had never used a computer. Today, she is learning digital tools and beginning to imagine a future she had never considered.

That is what happens when we listen.

These conversations shape programs that are not only effective, but relevant, responsive, and rooted in real needs.

This month, 321 students participated in our Women in Tech workshops as part of our APNIC initiative.

They are learning foundational digital skills, exploring AI tools, and gaining exposure to opportunities that are shaping today’s workforce.

For many of these young women, this is their first step into a world they did not know was accessible to them.

This work is about more than access.
It is about confidence, opportunity, and a future that feels possible.

Our Students Need Computers to Work

The Heart of the Work: Teachers and Staff

Behind every student success story is a team of dedicated educators and staff.

At Varin High School, teachers are now being trained to use AI tools to create quizzes and connect learning through platforms like Google Forms. These tools are making classrooms more dynamic, efficient, and engaging.

When teachers are equipped, students benefit and the impact multiplies.

There is nothing like being back in the schools and seeing this firsthand. It reminds me why we started and why we keep going.

Our Teachers Need Materials to Train and Teach

From Singapore to Cambodia: A Partnership in Action

Earlier this year, we welcomed educators from Tanglin Trust School in Singapore to Cambodia for a teacher training exchange.

They worked side by side with our Cambodian teachers, sharing ideas, learning from one another, and building real relationships.

Just weeks later, I had the opportunity to visit both Tanglin and Singapore American School to thank them in person and spend time in their classrooms.

To stand in their community and share what their partnership means on the ground.

Because this work is not one moment.
It is a relationship.

And when educators come together across countries and cultures, the impact multiplies.

Why Boots on the Ground Matters

Being present allows us to build programs that are deeply connected to the communities we serve.

It ensures that our work is guided by real experiences, real voices, and real needs.

This is how we grow.
This is how we create lasting change.

What Is Still Needed

While progress is real, the need remains urgent.

In many classrooms, students are still sharing one computer between several children or relying on smartphones that are not designed for learning.

We need additional resources to continue growing our programs and meeting the needs we are seeing on the ground.

We also need more staff to support expanding programs in early education, technology, and teacher training.

Students are ready to learn. Teachers are ready to teach.
But without these resources, they do not yet have the tools to fully participate.

There is so much opportunity ahead.
But we cannot do it without continued support.
