📋 Summer Spotlight: From Our Board of Directors

It’s hard to believe summer is already here, even though the heat showed up early. It’s a great time for our Goldens to enjoy the outdoors with their families and dog friends—just remember to keep an eye on the temperatures so they don’t overheat. Keep reading because we've got helpful tips to keep you cool below.

So far this year, we’ve welcomed 14 beautiful Goldens into rescue, and 10 have already been adopted. We can only say “yes” to a new dog when we have an open foster home, and summer always brings fewer available fosters.

Are you an approved foster and have room to help?

We’d love to hear from you! Reply to this email now to let us know, and we’ll follow up with you right away.

We’re also sad to share that we lost Bentley, one of our cherished permanent fosters, in March. His time with us was short, but his foster family gave him all the love and comfort he deserved. You can read his tribute below.

Our Spring 2026 GGR Low Country Golden Retriever Meet-Up was a wonderful success. The weather was perfect, the Goldens were happy, and thanks to our volunteers, attendees, and donors, we raised over $4,000 for medical care. Planning for the Fall meet-up is already underway, so stay tuned for upcoming announcements!

Inside this edition, you’ll find ways to support our mission, volunteer, foster, learn helpful tips, and enjoy inspiring rescue stories. Please share it with fellow dog lovers and help us spread the Golden joy.

From our hearts to yours, we wish you and your furry companions a safe and Happy 4th of July.

With deep gratitude,

The GGRLC Board

🌈 Farewell, Sweet Bentley

Our hearts are heavy as we share that Bentley—our beautiful English Cream Golden with the softest eyes and the bravest soul—made his peaceful journey to the Rainbow Bridge after only 5 1/2 months with us.

Bentley came to us with significant joint issues and later kidney failure, but he never faced a single day alone. Thanks to the kindness of our supporters, he spent his final chapter exactly where he deserved to be: safe, cherished, and wrapped in unwavering love.

His devoted foster dad, who also happened to be his veterinarian, gave him the gift of comfort, dignity, and gentle care through every up and down. When Bentley’s quality of life began to decline, he was held with tenderness until the very end.

Bentley’s time with us was a reminder of why our Golden Guardian Program exists—to make sure seniors and medically fragile Goldens know nothing but warmth, compassion, and belonging. And Bentley felt all of that, every single day. If you'd like to learn more about our permanent foster program, please click this link for the Golden Guardians Program.

Run free now, sweet boy.

You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed. 💛🐾

What an unforgettable day we had at the Spring 2026 GGR Low Country Golden Retriever Meet‑Up on Saturday, April 25th! The sunshine, the smiles, and all those happy Goldens made it truly special. The weather couldn’t have been better, the dogs played their hearts out, our trick contest was a hit, and the raffle prizes were a huge crowd‑pleaser.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who attended, we raised over $4,000 to support medical care for our rescued Goldens. We are so grateful.

A heartfelt thank‑you to our amazing volunteers, Hobcaw Brewing Co., Shaggy Dog Mobile Dog Grooming, and every single person and pup who joined us. You helped make the day fun, meaningful, and full of Golden joy. View more photos of the meet-up by clicking here.

We can’t wait to do it again this fall.

💩 Don't Skip the Scoop: Fecal Testing Matters!

Article Compliments of Oceanside Veterinary Clinic

When it comes to your pet’s health, some of the most important issues are the ones you can’t see, and intestinal parasites are a perfect example. Many pets with parasites look completely normal, which is why fecal testing is such a key part of preventive care.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is, “My pet doesn’t need that! They’re indoors or on preventives.” In reality, parasites can still find their way in through soil, other animals, or even what gets tracked into your home, and not all parasites are covered by standard preventives.

🌅 Have a Safe Summer!

☀️ Summer heat is already here, and our pets feel it even more than we do.

A quick walk or a few minutes in the sun can lead to overheating before we realize it. Taking small precautions now can make a big difference in keeping your furry family member safe.

💛 A few easy ways to help your pet stay cool:
• Follow the heat‑safety tips above
• Use cooling bandanas or vests
• Protect paws with pet booties on hot pavement
• Offer a cooling mat for rest and relaxation

Staying prepared helps your pet enjoy summer safely and comfortably. Let’s keep them cool, happy, and healthy all season long.

💡GGRLC Tip

Have you tried those new electrostatic mitts everyone’s been talking about? If not, you absolutely should. They’re amazing for lifting pet hair off your furniture. Just slip one on, rub it back and forth, and the hair gathers into a little rope you can peel off in seconds. It makes quick cleanups so easy. This is just one brand on Amazon—there are plenty of others at very reasonable prices. Once you use one, it’ll become a cleaning tool you won’t want to be without.
