News from the GGR Board 📋

🍂 Happy Fall, GGR Friends! 🍂

As summer comes to an end, our Goldens like GGR alum Cooper (pictured above) are still enjoying their pool. The yellow butterflies are plentiful and walks and playtime with our Goldens are much more enjoyable without the scorching heat.

This year GGR has been extremely busy with requests to take in Goldens. All but three of the twenty-nine dogs have been owner surrenders and this includes five pairs of dogs! Thanks to the continued support of our amazing fosters, volunteers, adopters, and supporters, we are able to help these Goldens who need us.

We are looking forward to a couple of upcoming Fall events and hope to see you. Read on to find details on these events and your chance to meet wonderful people and Goldens! Also, be sure to share this newsletter with your family and friends.

Looking to give back? We're always looking for fosters and volunteers. Visit www.ggrlc.org to sign up.

Thank you for being part of our GGR family. 🐾💛

But research can shed light on the science behind that helper's high — and long-term physical and psychological benefits that may follow it.

Why giving feels good

A study on charitable donation in which researchers performed functional MRI scans on donors' brains showed that after donating a part of their brains "lit up," or became active. (The MRI scans are used to detect neurological activity.)

The part of the brain that controls feelings of reward and pleasure lit up. This is called the mesolimbic system, which is also activated by things like food, drugs and sex.

But that's just the physiology of it. There's also a growing body of research that links different types of giving to greater quality of life, including the following potential health benefits:

GGR Tip 💡

Before you throw out your dog’s empty treat bags🦴, be sure to sprinkle any crumbs from the bottom of the bag onto your dog’s dinner bowl! 🍲 This will make their meal a bit more interesting and adds flavor. It’s like adding croutons to a salad or sprinkles to ice cream. Don’t let those delicious crumbs go to waste. Your dog will thank you! 😋
