News from the GGRLC Board šŸ“‹

Dear GGRLC Friends,

Summer is here—bringing the heat and humidity with it! Be sure to check out our helpful summer safety tips to keep your pups cool and protected. ā˜€ļøšŸ¾

So far in 2025, we've welcomed two GoldenĀ pairs along with over a dozen more Goldens into our care. Thanks to our wonderful new fosters, we’ve had loving homes ready for them. As adoption applications continue to outpace incoming dogs, we’re working thoughtfully through our approved adopter list. We appreciate your patience and support!

We recently said goodbye to Pope, a cherished permanent foster in our Golden Guardian Program. Thanks to his devoted foster mom, he lived each day surrounded by love and dignity. We’re deeply grateful—and we’ve included a heartfelt tribute to their beautiful bond in this issue.

You’ll notice an exciting update to our website: the ā€œAvailableā€ page now syncs directly with our rescue software, making it easier than ever to follow each dog’s journey through the adoption process.

We hope you enjoy this newsletter packed with information on volunteering, fostering, tips and more! Please be sure to share this newsletter with your family and friends.Ā

Wishing you and your furry companions a fun, safe, and splash-filled summer! šŸ’›

With gratitude, The GGRLC Board

A Vet’s Advice on Pet Summer Safety

Written By Redivet Team

Summer heat can be challenging for dogs and cats. Our vets explain how to have fun and keep your pet comfortable during hot temperatures.

Our vets share their tips on how to maximize summer fun while keeping your pet safe, happy and healthy!

Summer is a favorite time of year for so many, including our pets! Their kid-playmates are home, the days are longer, sunnier and include sideline sports-watching, patio happy hours, backyard sprinklers and road trips to the lake or beach. So while we love summer for its many outdoor and social activities, hot weather comes with its own risks to pet safety. Some of these hazards can even prove to be fatal like heatstroke, drowning or hot cars.

Here are some summer tips for pets to help everyone enjoy the season safely!

Forever in Our Hearts: Honoring the

Remarkable Life of Sweet Pope šŸ’”šŸŒˆ

Ā
On April 15th, we were heartbroken to share some sad news on Facebook: Pope, one of our beloved permanent fosters, had passed away.Ā šŸ’”
Ā
On March 18th, Pope went in for his routine blood draw. However, after returning home, he began favoring his leg. Despite giving it a few days, his condition didn’t improve. His wonderful foster mom, Carolina, took him back to the vet, where an X-ray revealed a fracture in his tibia and signs of bone disease. The radiologist confirmed that Pope had bone cancer, estimating he had only one or two months left. The alternative was a more aggressive approach—amputating the leg followed by chemotherapy—which might have extended his life for a year but would have caused him considerable pain.
Ā
Putting sweet Pope through additional suffering was not an option, especially after all the pain he had already endured. Carolina brought him home and managed to keep his pain under control for a while, but eventually, it became impossible. She lovingly made arrangements for him to cross the rainbow bridge at home, holding him tenderly in her arms to ensure he would not suffer.
Ā
Both Carolina and the rescue had hoped for much more time with Pope, who was an extraordinary dog. Despite the challenges his body faced, he possessed the spirit of a true fighter, and we all admired his unwavering will to live.
Ā
To Carolina, his wonderful foster mom: We hope you find comfort in knowing how deeply Pope appreciated your love and companionship. Please accept our heartfelt gratitude for welcoming him into your life as a permanent foster and for your unwavering commitment to his care. We will be forever grateful to you.Ā šŸ’–
Ā
Rest in peace, sweet Pope. 🌈
