April 2026 Newsletter

I hope everyone had a lovely Spring Break and came back ready to finish the final quarter of the school year! We are rolling into the final two months of the year with State tests, concerts, and all of the end of the year activities. I hope you can squeeze in one of our upcoming Member Meetings to learn about what we have going on and to take a look at the finished Music Room!

Volunteer Update

Thank you to all the parents and students who volunteered with OHBBO last month. Between helping with the spring concert set-up and the music room renovation, supporters have donated over 112 hours of time! That's $3,855 worth of volunteer time, according to Serve Ohio. More opportunities to volunteer are on our website.

The Music Room reno project was a huge one and we appreciate all of the volunteers that spent time moving everything out of the music room, practice rooms, instrument lockers, and storage closet - sorting and organizing - then putting everything away in their new location. The custodial staff were instrumental in getting all of the ancient and forgotten items out of the loft area, loading up the dumpster, moving the instrument lockers, and cleaning the space afterwards. The project was finished a full day early and was ready for students when they came back from spring break!

Directions and Parking

Thanks to the Ottawa Hills Schools Foundation, a few of the items on the current Band Needs list have already been checked off! You may have even had a chance to see the new percussion cart at the March JHHS concert. Most of your donations to OHBBO will support repairs taking place over the summer as we help the band program get caught up on some overdue instrument maintenance. Sending instruments off for repair takes coordination to ensure the work is completed before the students need the instruments in the Fall (many of these are Marching Band "color" instruments). Mr. Leeds will coordinate his repair plan based on funds available from the district, OHBBO, and any other sources. While it doesn't look like it, we are building up green checkboxes for the summer with every donation received!

Student Section of the Month

The March Student Section of the Month was the High School Band. Check out the slideshow on our homepage to see photos from events this year and quotes from the High School band students. The April Section of the Month will be revealed at the Member Meeting on April 1st.
