šŸ‚ Fall Spotlight: From Our Board of Directors šŸ“‹

Dear GGRLC Friends,

2025 has already been a golden year—literally! We’ve joyfully welcomed 23 beautiful Goldens into our care, and 21 of them are now living their best lives in forever homes filled with love, belly rubs, and squeaky toys. This incredible progress wouldn’t be possible without our amazing new fosters, who opened their hearts and homes to make these happy endings a reality.

As adoption applications continue to pour in faster than pups arrive, we’re carefully working through our approved adopter list to ensure every Golden finds the perfect match. Your patience and support mean the world to us—and to the dogs waiting for their turn to shine.

šŸ’› This season also brought a bittersweet farewell to Donut, a treasured permanent foster in our Golden Guardian Program. His days were filled with love, dignity, and the gentle care of a devoted foster family. We honor his legacy with a touching tribute in this issue—a reminder of the deep bonds that make our mission so meaningful.

šŸŽ‰ And the excitement doesn’t stop there! We’re gearing up for two tail-wagging events:

  • Cartober: A fun and festive online fundraiser to fuel the medical care our Goldens need.

  • Fall 2025 GGR Golden Retriever Meet-up: A celebration of community, connection, and of course—Goldens galore!

This newsletter is packed with ways to get involved—from volunteering and fostering to expert tips and heartwarming stories. Don’t forget to share it with fellow dog lovers and help spread the Golden joy!

Wishing you and your furry companions a season full of snuggles, sunshine, and unforgettable moments. šŸ¶šŸ

With gratitude,

The GGRLC Board

Dennis and his wife, Susan, moved to Charleston from the Midwest in 2016 after retiring. The following year, they adopted their first Golden Retriever, Tripp, from GGRLC. Sadly, Tripp passed away in 2019 due to a fast-moving cancer.

Despite the loss, Dennis continued volunteering at events, became a foster, and eventually took on the role of Home Visit Coordinator. During this time, he fostered a dog named Lily, whom he adopted in 2020. Lily turned seven this August.

As GGRLC’s Home Visit Coordinator, Dennis leads a dedicated team of volunteers who process approximately 150 adoption and foster applications each year. They coordinate home visits and connect with families to ensure successful placements. Covering a wide area—from Myrtle Beach in the north to Savannah, Georgia in the south, and as far west as Columbia—can be challenging. But for Dennis and his team, being part of this mission and giving every Golden a fresh start is deeply rewarding.

Thank you, Dennis, for your tireless dedication, compassion, and the countless lives you've helped transform—both human and canine. Your work truly makes a difference.

Ā Life of Love: Honoring Our Beloved Donut šŸ’”šŸŒˆ

🌈 With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to sweet Donut, a cherished permanent foster in our Golden Guardians Program.

Donut brought quiet joy and gentle love to those around him. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

Kathy Jo let us know that Donut had a difficult night and his legs gave out. We asked her to take him to the vet, where they began palliative care to manage his pain with medication. She was able to keep him comfortable for a day or so, but sadly, his pain became unmanageable. Kathy Jo made arrangements for him to cross the bridge on August 22nd so he would not suffer.

She shared this: "Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! Donut is resting easy and I can only imagine getting an eyeful of the most beautiful rainbow! He was a sweet pup and we were happy to enjoy his love and companionship for 2 1/2 years. Thank you for all that you all and grateful Goldens has done for all of us. ā¤ļøšŸ¾ā€

We are so thankful to Kathy Jo and her family for giving Donut a warm, caring home. Their love gave him peace, comfort, and the golden life he deserved.

ā€œRun free, sweet Donut, at the Rainbow Bridge.ā€ šŸ’› 🌈

The Ultimate Guide to Doing Your Pet’s Laundry

By: Lizz Caputo

Ā
Discover expert pet laundry tips for a fresher home! Sort wisely, choose gentle detergents, and maintain a healthier environment with our do's and don'ts.

The days are getting longer - finally! As spring creeps up on the horizon, I take a look around my space, aka the winter hibernation den my dog and I call home. I need a fresh start, the thought enters my mind as I grab the long-lost Swiffer out of my closet.

Should I be doing a deep clean more than once per year? Probably! But what better time to start than spring? If you're a pet parent especially, your copilot's bedding, toys, and even clothing almost certainly need a thorough scrub.

Some of us need help in the laundry department, or maybe just a light refresher when it comes to pet laundry do's and don'ts. We've compiled the ultimate guide to ensure your pet's items are as fresh and clean as a daisy, so you can sit back and cuddle in a healthier, fresher-smelling abode and enjoy the emerging sunshine.

Help! How do I do my pet's laundry?

GGRLC Tip šŸ’”

šŸŽ¶šŸ¾ Set the Relaxation Mood! šŸ¾šŸŽ¶

Does your dog get anxious when you leave the house—or even when you're just in the next room? You’re not alone, and there’s a simple way to help soothe their stress: music.

Studies show that calming music can ease anxiety in pets, and thanks to Pandora’s free Dog Music channels—like Dog Music Channel and Dog Music Jukebox—you can create a peaceful atmosphere with just a few clicks.

šŸ” Working from home? Keep the volume low and let the gentle tunes work their magic. You’ll notice your pup relaxing nearby, and you might even find your own stress melting away. It’s a win-win for productivity and peace.

Whether you're stepping out or settling in, let music be the comfort your dog needs. Because a calm home is a happy home—for both of you.
