Here are 10 reasons why you should give the gift of MFP membership.

1. Two Mississippi natives, both women, founded the MFP. They care deeply about Mississippi and want what’s best for it, plus they are just kick-ass.

2. The MFP looks like Mississippi. Seriously go check out this team. Our diversity rivals any in the state, dare we say the nation or the galaxy. OK, so we can’t prove the galaxy part, but we have our suspicions. (Can you tell a Trekkie wrote this?)

3. COVID is still a thing, and we need masks to protect our staff and the communities we cover. Masks are not cheap. Help us buy some masks.

4. Public records copies are not standardized across the state. Ashton Pittman might pay 10¢ or $1 a copy. Help Ashton copy with confidence.

5. You might have heard that we won INN’s Startup of the Year. Yay! Do you know what else costs money? Associations. Help cover our association dues. There are a lot of them who like and help us

6. We convened Black women from around the state for our Black Women and COVID project. Zoom costs $$.

7. Our staff started going to the office recently for COVID safe meetings. We had to borrow coffee from our neighbor. Have you ever seen a media organization without coffee? It’s not pretty. Help cover the coffee habit as we go hybrid, and we promise to drink more water.

8. We distribute our stories for free. So anyone can reprint our stories for FREE. That doesn’t cost anything; we just thought you should know.

9. Our reporting team is the best in the state with 24 awards since March 2020. Help us give them raises and reporters’ notebooks.

10. Finally, if you think we’re doing good work and our work is important, join the recurring donor roster to help sustain our growth.
