SIDS Assistance

In 2022, HCM provided support for a very special family that had just lost their infant to "SIDS". This was the first of what would become many and it soon became apparent that these families are some of our most impacted, most vulnerable, and yet they have the least support. Meanwhile, infants continue to die needlessly because of the lack of the necessary data being collected. 

Supporting these families is important, but it is far from easy. In fact, it might just be the hardest work we have done, emotionally, procedurally and financially. The emotional weight on the parents can be overwhelming, and the advocate often needs to hold space for that family while navigating the bureaucratic process to obtain testing, and when necessary, unfortunately, an attorney. 

In some of the worst cases like one we are handling right now, we need to be able to pay for testing AND an attorney and most of these families simply do not have the means. So without help, without us, finding answers is simply not an option. 

Without us, many of these families have no one. Which is why this work has become so important to us.
